What Does India Export?

I read this interesting article on Al Sharq Al Awsat the other day. It is in Arabic, so I will try to roughly translate it.

Prince Talal Bin Abdulaziz asked the Prime Minister of India in a recent visit to India, the population of India is growing very rapidly, and this is turning up to be a huge burden, how can you ensure that everyone has a chance in life?

The Prime Minister smiled and replied: newborns no longer a burden on the New India. We have discovered something called education. We are teaching our people the fields of Engineering, Medicine, Economics, and countless others. Now we export our minds to other countries, countries that have excelled in these fields are now accepting our people in the very same fields. We have discovered Education, and without it we will be eaten alive.

When will we discover education?

“We have discovered something called education” “countless other fields”

education: The knowledge or skill obtained or developed by a learning process.A program of instruction of a specified kind or level: driver education; a college education.

so…this amazing “discovery” of “education” could mean anything. so, am I to uderstand that in order to be a domestic servant, cook, driver or any other labour help…they need a certain type of “discovered education” so that they could be imported? Doesn’t this guy see the big picture here? I dont know about you guys, but I think the overpopulation of India is a real crisis to its own people. You can’t hide the fact that this problem is forcing these “minds”, speaking for the majority, to leave their own country…not because they are exported like some product…but more like to escape poverty or to support their families which their OWN government can’t spport.

And yet… The Prime Minister smiled and replied: newborns no longer a burden on the New India. OH REALLY?! How the fuck did this guy get away with what he said or even have the nerve to say it? Can’t he see the extreme poverty and huge level of unemployment in his country?

Ha, and they say we are barbaric with the way we treat them.

actually, if learning how to be a house made, and drive is education, then most of the labor that comes here is uneducated.

uneducated as in….they dont know how to do their jobs?
I think that PM needed to acknowledge the fact that there is a problem. Anyways…

Sounds like u think every indian is born 2 be drivers & housemaids…

anyways, i think what the PM was trying to say.. India’s level of education is considered the highest amongst all countries..

The country is not in a position to support every single indian, but it is working on it. Support 1/6th of the population is not thing that can be done overnight…
So, by providing education to absolutely everyone, the people become more competent & compete with people internationally. Although it’d take a generation to fulfill, but dont u think it’s a good plan ?

Anyways, he didnt disagree with the fact that it is a problem..

Besides, by saying the solution to the problem, he is acknowledging the problem…

By the way, pls disregard the first statement I made… I said it, cos the way u made ur statement.. It sounded as if that was what you were tryin to potray.

Its interesting to see all of your opinions, some I agree with, some I dont. But I think that India is really exporting minds. I mean they are everywhere. Ok I admitt a lot of them come to the gulf for manual labor (9ibby, maid, driver, etc..) but a lot of them are coming for engineering, medical, technical, and various other positions.
In the States, there is a big issue with outsourcing right now, a lot of people are afraid to loose their jobs to Indians. A lot of jobs, such as customer support, are moving to India. They got cheap, well educated labor, so that means u got more productivity from your employees, and thats saves money, and bussiness is all about making and saving money at the same time.
I read an article once about a university they have in india, they get over 200,000 applicants for 1000 or 2000 seats every year. The son of one of Cisco’s founders (an indian) had this university as his first choice. He didnt get it, his second choice was Yale (and yes he went to Yale). That has to account for something…
