Thank God It Wasnt One Of “Us”

Seattle Airport removed several Christmas trees from their facilities after receiving a complaint from a Rabbi who wanted to have some menorahs installed in the airport too, since it is Hanukkah season too, not only that, he wanted the airport to build an 8 foot menorah and have a lighting ceremony there. The “official” reason for removing them that was supplied by airport officials is that they didn’t have the time nor the effort to please all religions.

Anyways thats not why I posted this….

What do I see wrong here? Well I first saw this on TV a few days ago, read it in the newspaper yesterday, and searched articles online today. I was looking to see if the Rabbi threated to sue or something along that line, but nothing is said about such a threat. So they removed the trees just because a jew didn’t like what he saw? According to Wiki, America is 78% Christian and less than 2 percent Jewish! (wiki says its 1% bas lets give them another point just in case).

So even after giving the Jews a “push,” Christians still outnumber them 39 to 1. So why be afraid and listen to them? Just because a Jew wants a menorah, you remove Christmas trees that have been set up for the past 25 years?

In 1989, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Christmas trees and menorahs were sufficiently secular that they could be displayed in a government building without constituting an endorsement of a particular religion.

There is even a ruling about it! I as a Muslim living in America accept seeing Christmas trees everywhere, I don’t see them in a religious way, they are just there to celebrate Christmas, which to me is nothing more a certain period of year that is cold, everybody does their shopping, and a sign that school will be over soon. But when I see a menorah, I will consider it a jewish thing unless I am in a Jewish country.

What if we had a tree or something, a symbol, to use in ramadhan for example, and we (we as in American Muslims, adry ga6 roo7y 3alaihom :P) were 5% of the population will “displaying our symbol in a government building” be considered legal by the US Supreme Court?

…ok ma 3indy salfa, going to back to studying now. :P

Update: Here is what the Rabbi’s attorney said today :

“They’ve darkened the hall instead of turning the lights up. There is a concern here that the Jewish community will be portrayed as the Grinch.”

lol i knew it was worth it posting this!

That’s really weird .. but that’s what I call it the language of power” .. Jews have loud voices with a very tiny body, but US - Muslims - always hesitate to take actions and fight for our rights although we are five times larger than them ..

The Jewish control in the US is powerful, in all ways: government and political influence, media, big corporations, etc. You know Pareto’s 80-20 rule? Well, their 2% controls 80% of the important things in the US! :)

Yazeed, I don’t think the Seattle airport’s compliance with the Rabbi’s wishes is a matter of fear or Jew power as implied. There has been an extensive debate, in addition to legal battles, about the constitutionality of public and government endorsement of certain religious symbols. This debate is not only brought up by Jews but also by Christians, atheists and followers of other religions who are fearful for the status of secularism in the US, especially that the American Constitution clearly prohibits any support or advancement of religion. Private entities, however, can display whatever they want since it is not paid by tax-money. Today’s news say that the Rabbi never asked for the removal of the Christmas tree, rather, the addition of a manora, which, in my mind a reasonable demand. Next time Eid coincides with the holidays lets ask them to put a fanoos and a crescent.

Interesting, of that 2% - 99% are the ones holding the most powerful positions. I made up the statistics :P but I believe they’re true.

The Port of Seattle commissioner (boss of all the airports and docks) made the decision because he was afraid of being sued and being forced to put up decorations for ANY religious celebration that wanted it (minority rights protection, remember?) The Rabbi said he wasn’t going to sue. Meanwhile, all the airlines put up their own trees (they rent the space from Port of Seattle) and within 24 hours, all the trees and their decorations were back.

The Rabbi said he got some truly horrifying e-mails with very “un-Christian” sentiments.

A great victory here for common sense over political correctness.

No conspiracy. The Seattleites worked it out.

      MSB said it.
It’s pretty much known that Jews can be clever and powerful; and to this point I suppose they ‘blend’ in better and so on. That’s all it takes for them.
Again, it’s pretty much well-known; not surprising at all.

      *e7im* not worth posting- ARSENAL.

I thought the title of your post said: “What if god was on of us”. While reading the post I was wonder what it had to do with the post.
