A few days I installed ubuntu Linux. There has been a lot said about this particular distribution, so I decided to see what all the fuss is all about. So far I’m impressed. It looks great, its very fast, there is a lot documentation out there when I was looking for help.
I found almost every application I needed out there. Ubuntu comes bundled with applications like Firefox, OpenOffice.org, multimedia apps, games, almost the same lineup that comes with Windows.
I’ve also installed Beryl. Beryl is a windows manager for Linux. It produces lots of cool special effects. Its hard to describe, watch this video to get a better idea. Mind you that my laptop doesn’t have its own dedicated graphics card, I am on integrated graphics and Beryl works very well.
The only downside is the way you install programs, you have to a command terminal to install programs, although there a few ways around this, you can use the add/remove programs app or another app called Automatix2 to install commonly used programs. I need to learn about the commands to use on the terminal, I am sure its not that hard, but I would like to see a way to download a program and have it install by itself, not by entering a bunch of commands in a terminal.
Other than that, I am pretty happy with my “switch.” For now it will be my main operating system. I haven’t booted windows in a few days.
If you’re curious, I think you should try it out.

That’s great news, Mabrooooook and Ubuntu is a great OS no doubt
Feisty Fawn makes Windows look pathetic; it consumes less resources and boasts performance and stability. The new kernel (a few days old!) adds even more hardware support, but it will probably be added in the next release.
I worked at this company like 2 years ago, and on my first week this guy walked up to me and welcomed me to the company and he gave me a welcoming gift. The gift was an Ubuntu CD.
installing programs wasn’t that difficult because I used FreeBDS before, and they’re both use the command line.
Congrats buddy! Good decision, I’m going with it too and I’m just having to decide which machine to install it on! You get used to the command line installation its really simple, I’m used to it from using linux and I like how stable it is!
