I disagree, by being a secretary general, you cant say that country is the next big thing….coz ghana made no outstanding progress despite kofi annan being the secretary general….how about egypt? did things change to a big extent when buthros buthros ghali was secretary general?

yes, boutros and kofi didnt really do anything for their countries, but north korea is a current situation, and it matters a lot with the US and south korea, who have US millitary personnel in S.Korea, and South Korea sees the north as a direct threat, maybe its the 2nd or 3rd most important issue in the US foreign Policy now, especially after the “test” they had last week.
I just find it a bit weird that they choose this time, (some sites the new general takes over in january, while some say in 4 weeks)

I dont trust South Koreans for some reason, maybe because the vice president of FIFA is from there, and since he took post, funny things started happening in world football, like hyandai (he is also VP of Hyundai, i think) getting a major sponsorship with FIFA

I know that it sounds stupid, but I have my doubts and reasons :P
