In Saudi Arabia and in Kuwait Liberals are being attacked by the you know who guys. The term Liberaly (in arabic) has the same weight as the term Irhaby with certain people. Its almost like a curse word these days. Oh this guy is a Liberaly he must be an Infidel. ??? ?????? ??????? ?????
Some people think the term Liberal separates state from religion, and that’s why its being attacked. I am tired of reading numerous articles a day attacking Liberals. Sometimes I get so upset that I feel that I am the one being attacked. I will not get into specific events, cause they are a lot of them going on an almost daily basis.
A simple internet search on the word Liberal gives you the following results:
- broad: showing or characterized by broad-mindedness; “a broad political stance”; “generous and broad sympathies”; “a liberal newspaper”; “tolerant of his opponent’s opinions”
- having political or social views favoring reform and progress
- tolerant of change; not bound by authoritarianism
- a person who favors a political philosophy of progress and reform and the protection of civil liberties
- people who generally like to reform current conditions. Liberals are often referred to as the left wing
- A liberal is a person who supports moderate social progress and reform
I seriously dont see anything wrong with what is mentioned above. In fact I think that’s what every person in our society wants, even “islamists” or “extremists.”
I haven’t heard any liberal in any of the two countries call for things to cry about. I just dont get the reason for them to hate everything liberal. I dont recall a liberal bashing our religion and calling for stuff that are totally against the religion.
It frustrates me, and I cant explain it.
You should go to the Kuwaiti student elections in USA … I was told I am going to hell for being a liberal a couple of times. Its quite fun actually.
It’s a shame that Liberals get attacked in Kuwait. It’s more shameful that wrong ideas are spread between the youth about Liberals especially in colleges. Most youth who lean towars islamist parties have a general idea that liberals and the members of the liberal party are bad people, who sleep and hang out with girls in shaleihs, drink and don’t pray. They also believe that Liberaly=3elmany. The worst part is that the islamic party has been the dominant party in the past 25 years.
