Its Friday night. The street right in front of the complex I am living in was swamped with cops. About 50 patrol cars were parked on both sides of the road. We wondered what happened, no one seemed to know the answer. For a moment I thought something really terrible has happened on campus (the street is also right across the university I study at). The news channels at that time didn’t mention anything, neither did the internet. I waited for a while, nothing popped up. Why the vast numbers of policemen I wondered, I couldn’t find the answer.
I wake up the next day, still wondering about what might explain the events of the previous night. I visit the university’s website, nothing except a purse snatching incident that happened on Wednesday. I log on into the Charlotte Observer’s website (newspaper), and find this:
9 nailed for DWI violations
Authorities arrested nine people for driving while intoxicated during a DWI checkpoint on University Boulevard (N.C. 49), near UNC Charlotte, from 11 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. this morning.Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and Mecklenburg County sheriff’s deputies also cited five people for having open containers of alcohol and 11 for driving while their licenses were revoked. They made two drug-related arrests. — Karen Garloch
Aha! That explains why we were stopped twice in area that stretched a few hundred meters and asked if we had drinks or not. Preparing for the worst? Or going too far? .:.Link.:.
