Champions League Wednsday: 2nd Round First Leg

Barcelona 1-2 Liverpool

Kafoo Wallah! I think the Liverpool fans didnt expect this result. I knew that this would be the best time to play Barcelona. They have been going through a hard time. Their performances havent been that encouraging. They are certainly the same Barcelona of last season. It wasnt really that exciting of a match, non Liverpool or Barcelona fans would agree, but to me (Barca hater speaking) I was ecstatic! For them to loose against an English team was icing on the cake! Yes Liverpool were lucky with the first goal, but guess what? Luck is a part of the game. Liverpool turned the table on Barcelona after being 1-0 down, so coming out to win it 2-1 is an achievement, against the reigning European Champions. They go in into the second leg with an excellent position to go through.

Prediction: Liverpool will go through, but Barca will put a fight.

AS Roma 0-0 Lyon

I didnt see this game, the stats show that Lyon had most of the chances and slightly more possession of the ball. Lyon are a very good side, they are the team that impressed me most in the first round. I think they will win their home fixture against Roma.

Prediction: Lyon

Inter Milan 2-2 Valencia

Seemed like this was the match to watch. Valencia came back from behind twice to draw with Inter. An excellent result for them. A draw with 2 away goal is still very good, although Inter are a very good team and can do something in the first leg. I think the problem with Inter is that the Italian league wasnt really that tough for them (16 wins in a row in their league) so when a good opposition came knocking, they gave them a run for their money.

Prediction: Valencia, but it could still go either way.

Porto 1-1 Chelsea

Porto certainly put up a great display, they would be disappointed that they only came out with a draw, they looked like the should have scored on a few times. Cech had a good game. Chelsea also wasted a lot of chances, but I never felt that they were going to score from those. Chelsea fans should be happy with the result, they should finish it off when they play in London. Chelsea got 4 yellow cards all to vital players (Makelele, Cech, Ballack, and Essien) , which might cost them in further rounds.

Prediction: Chelsea, I got a feeling that this one can go into overtime, or can be decided on away goals.

Looking back at the 8 matches so far, I can see that none of the games are “in the bag” some closer than the others, but still any match can go either way. Expect that the 2nd leg of these matches (March 6 & 7) to be absolutely entertaining. I just wish that we could see more matches :P not having all 4 matches of the day being played at the same time. Cant wait :D !
