Champions League Wednesday: ARGHHHHHHH!!!!!

arsencskag_228x375.jpgWhat kind of word can I use to describe my feelings after this match? Frustrating? Disappionted? Discouraged? Stunned? I cant really find a word to describe it. I’ve never seen Arsenal do so much, and come out with very little (oh I forgot to mention that the game ended 0-0). Its become common this year, Arsenal doing everything beautifully, but not able to put it at the back of the net, but when they do, beware. I know we are playing the best team football in Europe if not the World at the moment (and this is not cause I’m an Arsenal fan), their passing is sensational. I remember back in the 1998 double season, Emmanuel Petit said “we could even play blindfolded,” this year is a different version of past Wenger teams.

After the match, Wenger said it best:

This the best we have played in the Champions League since I have been here. Normally in games like this we would win 7-0 or 7-1. We had a lots of chances, we missed the first and then the second but we can’t be guilty of trying to score the perfect goal. We dominated this Moscow team but we have to accept this result because the group is very close.

Back to the match, just look at the stats: Arsenal had 7 shots on target, 14 wide, and 58% of the possession. In the first half, they played almost perfectly, only problem is that they cant score! A fellow Arsenal fan said it best (Q sent this in between both halves):

sexiest most amazing football ive ever seen in one half!

I’m still frustrated, the time it took me to write this part is 45 minutes. I’ll just stop here and post goals and highlights to this post whenever they come available.

yazeez .. becuz u chose to put mourinhos pick instead of a barca pic … the team who actually tried attacking (arsenal).. and not just counterattacking … didnt get the result they needed …

my point … arsenal wouldve won today .. had u put a barca pic … yesterday … :)

dont side with a team that plays counter AT HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

u stole it last year! :P

i still dislike chelski’s style of play, in the premiership, not in the champs league (they dont threat arsenal there, yet)
      :P

adorra … i didnt even know what an “offside” was when i started playing for my school. The coach would talk about it and i would just nod my head …. the funny thing is … i was a defender … a defender sometimes defends by using an “offside trap” … my point … its never too late to pick it up …

      Rick,
u seriously think barca produced him, gimme a break, he left when he was 15!!! he would have never been given the chance, rijkard is no wenger!
ba3dain we snatched another guy, fran merida, they say he’s is just as good as fabs, eat ur heart out, 7alal 3alaikom gio

      Macaholiq8,
      GOBISSSSSSS

      adorra,

yes yazeez … his passing alone is a product of the spanish school … not the english .. rarely do we see english players with such vision … wenger did not create him … he simply shaped him … shaped him to fit into arsenals system … so what if he was 15 … walcott and messi started playing pro football at the age of 17 …

its not like wenger taught him how to play in 3 yrs … come on man … u should know this …

    9. Gravatar Icon 9 Yazeed Nov 2nd, 2006 at 4:24 am

      yeah yeah :P
what fabs had was we arabs call “fi6ra”
      :P
      aham shay ohwa waina al7een?
oo for who did he just sign an 8 year contract?
there are lots of good young players out there, some make it, many many don’t, mainly because of the kind of environment they are in,
what would make fabs leave at such a young age, at a time that arsenal were not known for giving the chance for young players, it really started with fabs (the youth revolution). being 15, moving to a country that he cant speak the language off, i am assuming he wasn’t happy at how things were going for him at barca, hes Catalan, so playing for barca is a dream, and he left, it says a lot….
      fran merida…remember the name

damn yazeez … mat naam? … its 2.40am in cali so almost 6am in the east … anyways … great article … i was thinking the same these past few days … i seriously want to see how mourinho will act when chelsea finish 5th or 6th in the prem … to tell u the truth .. mourinho might commit suicide… j/k … we dont want anyone to die …

u know .. i actually liked this guy when he was at porto … what was i thinking?? btw … porto were lucky to reach the final .. if u watch the game where they beat man u at old traf … i think it was scholes who scored a legitimate goal .. that was not counted by the ref … where would jose be right now had man u eliminated porto ? still at porto? with didier deschamps at chelsea ??? …

    12. Gravatar Icon 12 Yazeed Nov 2nd, 2006 at 2:26 pm

      lol
u should see how he will act when he gets 2nd this year :P

i’ve never liked him, i knew porto was just a strike of luck, that year’s UCL was a bit too weired. its the same year greece won euro 2004.

Hmmmm Arsenal definitely play some of the best passing football in the world, and I love how Arsene has created this perfect team play technique they use, but nonetheless, the team still relies on Henry way too much… They’re still a good team when he’s missing, but no where near the top with out him… I’m just worried how they’ll react if Henry were to miss a large chunk of the season, or maybe even ask for a transfer in the summer… They have a young up and coming generation (i.e. Walcott, Merida, Djourou, Senderos, Cesc, Eboue, Van Persie) but so far, none of them has shown the potential to carry the team like Henry can…
If you wanna see one of the most dominating and perfectly executed halves in football, you should watch Liverpool’s first half performance against Villa last Saturday… That was pure pleasure!
Honestly, I don’t expect Arsenal to go all the way in the Champs League this year, even though they’ll probably deserve to reach the later stages more than many of the other teams who will…
