Beckham will be leaving Real Madrid in the summer to join the LA Galaxy (yes the American team).
“This week Real Madrid asked me to make a decision regarding my future and the offer to extend my contract for a further two seasons,” Beckham told Reuters.
“After discussing several options with my family and my advisors to either stay here in Madrid or join other major British and Europe.an teams I have decided to join L.A. Galaxy and play in the MLS from August this year.”
His total package is reported to be one of the biggest in global sport and with spin-offs “Brand Beckham” could earn more than $200 million (103 million pounds) over the duration of the contract.
L.A. Galaxy have reportedly offered Beckham around $3 million-a-year (1.55 million pounds), but the 31-year-old will have full control of his world-wide image rights which could bring in another $39 million (20 millions pounds).

Well I saw an interview that he did yesterday. I dont think he is doing it for the money. He is getting paid only half of what he got from madrid ($3 million a year) but he will have full control of his image rights (something he didnt have before) which can give him about $40 million a year.
He said that he choose to move now, cuz if he moved later, ppl will say that he made the move because of money. He seems like he really want to contribute to the growth of “soccer” in america.
I think if soccer hits big in the states, they will become a big big team in years to come, and their league can be one of the best. Just think of all the money if soccer in the US is considered the #1 sport there.

if he IS doing it to attract more attention to soccer in the US then i think that’s great… soccer is definitely under-valued there!
this has been all over the news… how is Beckham going to bring soccer to the US.. i think the only thing ppl will care about there is “What Posh is wearing?!!”, “Are Tome, Katie and the Beckhams having a family outing?!” and “When’re the latest Beckham glasses/shoes/sports gear coming out?”
